How to Store Guitar Picks (and Stop Losing Them)

Guitar picks have a habit of disappearing: into sofa cushions, washing machines and the bottom of gig bags. A little organisation goes a long way, especially if you own picks you care about, like a favourite heavy pick or a personalised wooden one.
Why picks go missing
Picks are small, light and usually left wherever you last played. Most get lost because they don't have a fixed home. The fix is simple: give your picks one place to live, and put them back there every time.
1. Use a dedicated pick box
A pick box is the easiest way to keep picks together. Our oval pick box holds a whole collection upright, while the square hinged box has a magnetic lid and a recess for one special pick. Keep it next to your guitar stand so putting picks away becomes a habit.
2. Keep a spare in your case
Most guitar cases and gig bags have an accessory pocket. Keep two or three spare picks there so you're never caught without one at a rehearsal or gig.
3. Clip one to the guitar
Pick holders that stick to the guitar or clip onto the headstock keep a pick within reach while you play. They're handy for practice, but don't rely on them for picks you'd hate to lose.
4. Separate your favourites
If you have a sentimental pick, such as one engraved with a name or a date, store it separately from your everyday picks. A personalised box like our guitar-shaped pick box turns it into a keepsake you can display.
Looking after wooden picks
- Keep them dry and away from heat or direct sunlight.
- Wipe them clean after playing.
- Store them in a box rather than loose in a pocket with keys or coins.
